Tune In
The Overtime Theater proudly presents Tune In, an insightful new play written by television actor and playwright, Carlos Lacámara. He is most known for his TV sitcoms from the 80s including Nurses and Family Ties. A younger generation will remember him as the father on the Nickelodeon sitcom The Brothers Garcia which was set in San Antonio.
His new play centers around Samantha Albert, a female psychology professor in the 1960s. She battles the patriarchy of a male-dominated university, and the traumatic death of her mother, Lily, to conduct experiments on a new wonder drug– LSD. She turns to the aging head of her department, Professor Melnitz, for support when her place alongside competing professors becomes heated. Her experiments will change her, and the other professors, in ways she didn’t expect.
Performances run March 24 – April 15, 2023, Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, with one Sunday matinee on April 2 at 3 pm. And now we happily bring back Pay-What-You-Will Night on Thursday, April 6 at 8 pm.

The Overtime Theater is a non-profit organization with the mission of “theater for the people” to the greater community through new productions and workshops in acting, playwriting, and comedy improvisation. We are dedicated to providing original, innovative, and accessible entertainment at an affordable price.
In business since 2007, The Overtime Theater produces works with an emphasis on playwrights in San Antonio and surrounding areas. Offering content that appeals to a wide variety of patrons, we specialize in world premieres of new works never before seen on stage as well as unconventional adaptations of old classics. Our shows have included everything from period pieces to absurdist drama. We produce farces, musicals, social change pieces, memoirs, dramas, dream pieces, traditional contemporary and more. Our goal is to offer something for everyone with the hope that patrons will come back and expand their horizons.
The Overtime is San Antonio’s answer to off off Broadway Theater – specializing in the eccentric, the eclectic, the experimental and the original. In addition to our original plays and musicals, we offer Improvisational Comedy and a Cabaret which features everything from sketches to songs to poetry to interpretive dance to stand-up comedy.
The long standing mission of The Overtime is to create theater for people who don’t go see theater. We are the gateway theater for people to discover the wonderful social relationship theater offers. We have had numerous success stories come from patrons telling us they had never been to a live theatrical production before and that their experience has confirmed that they will definitely be back for more. Some of our favorite repeat patrons are those who had never been to a theater show before visiting us.
