The Overtime Theater continues their tradition of the non-traditional by bringing psychological/supernatural horror to their stage in a premiere performance of The Possession, directed by Alejandro Urdiales. This new play is written by San Antonio-native Michael Burger Song, debuting his 3rd full-length script to be produced at the Overtime Theater. Arthur, a quiet yet neurotic man dealing with the traumas of his family’s murder, and the fact that he was a suspect in the same, can’t seem to leave the past behind him when a detective shows up at his door to question him about a missing girl. As Arthur tries to move forward, his world is thrown into question as strange events begin to unfold. An intruder, that doesn’t seem to exist, breaks into his home. Arthur is losing track of time, hearing voices, and his new doll appears to be at the center of it all. As Arthur tries to stay in possession of his faculties he must confront the darkness which has been brought into his home and decide what kind of man he really is.
Performances run September 22 – October 14, 2023, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, with one Sunday matinee on October 1 at 3 pm. The Pay-What-You-Will Night is Thursday, September 28 at 8 pm. Offering content that appeals to a wide variety of patrons, we specialize in world premieres of new works never before seen on stage as well as unconventional adaptations of old classics. Our shows have included everything from period pieces to absurdist drama. We produce farces, musicals, social change pieces, memoirs, dramas, dream pieces, traditional contemporary and more. Our goal is to offer something for everyone with the hope that patrons will come back and expand their horizons.
The Overtime is San Antonio’s answer to off off Broadway Theater – specializing in the eccentric, the eclectic, the experimental and the original. In addition to our original plays and musicals, we offer Improvisational Comedy and a Cabaret which features everything from sketches to songs to poetry to interpretive dance to stand-up comedy.
The long standing mission of The Overtime is to create theater for people who don’t go see theater. We are the gateway theater for people to discover the wonderful social relationship theater offers. We have had numerous success stories come from patrons telling us they had never been to a live theatrical production before and that their experience has confirmed that they will definitely be back for more. Some of our favorite repeat patrons are those who had never been to a theater show before visiting us.
