Fourth Act Productions

We believe live theatre is undergoing a major overhaul — a rebirth, of sorts.

Somewhere along the way, we lost sight of our purpose and who we serve.
Many theatre “artists” have become more concerned with showing off a piece of stagecraft or flexing an acting muscle.
It became far too common to hear the phrase, “if they don’t get it, that’s their problem.”

Wrong.
Just, no.

Luckily, we get the chance to begin anew.

Our purpose is to create one-of-a-kind evenings shared by a group of people
-both onstage and off.

To live through something together.
To illuminate the human experience.
To put the community back in community theatre.

As for who we serve, well that’s easy; you, the playwright, and the gods.
-not necessarily in that order.

We aim not to impress you, but to move you; to stir you.
Theatre has been dark for so long.
But we see the light at the end of the pandemic-tunnel.

Join us in rekindling the flame that we should have protected before.

Circle Arts

In 1968, Elizabeth Elliott, a divorced mother of two special needs children, took the ultimate leap of faith by quitting her job as a registered nurse to devote her life to Circle Arts Theatre. On September 22, 2018, Circle Arts Theatre celebrated its 50th anniversary with a gala celebration at the McKenna Events Center. There have been many significant changes over the last 50 years from our original restricted venue to our newly renovated theatre, from one production in 1969 to currently 8 productions. The variety of our offerings has included Shakespeare, human comedies, drama, mysteries, fantasies and melodramas. We offer Klasses In Drama (K.I.D.s) for 7-14 year olds, and The Inner Circle, our by-audition-only teenage repertory company for ages 14-18, that brings live theatre to the schools of Comal and surrounding counties.

Even though Elizabeth left us in 2008, the one guiding principal over the years has been her philosophy, “Professionalism is not a category for payment, but an attitude of behavior.”

So please join us as we begin our 53rd Season, complete with all the fun, entertainment and excellence, you have come to expect from Circle Arts Theatre.

The Overtime Theater

The Overtime Theater is a non-profit organization with the mission of “theater for the people” to the greater community through new productions and workshops in acting, playwriting, and comedy improvisation. We are dedicated to providing original, innovative, and accessible entertainment at an affordable price.

In business since 2007, The Overtime Theater produces works with an emphasis on playwrights in San Antonio and surrounding areas. Offering content that appeals to a wide variety of patrons, we specialize in world premieres of new works never before seen on stage as well as unconventional adaptations of old classics. Our shows have included everything from period pieces to absurdist drama. We produce farces, musicals, social change pieces, memoirs, dramas, dream pieces, traditional contemporary and more. Our goal is to offer something for everyone with the hope that patrons will come back and expand their horizons.

The Overtime is San Antonio’s answer to off off Broadway Theater – specializing in the eccentric, the eclectic, the experimental and the original. In addition to our original plays and musicals, we offer Improvisational Comedy and a Cabaret which features everything from sketches to songs to poetry to interpretive dance to stand-up comedy.

The long standing mission of The Overtime is to create theater for people who don’t go see theater. We are the gateway theater for people to discover the wonderful social relationship theater offers. We have had numerous success stories come from patrons telling us they had never been to a live theatrical production before and that their experience has confirmed that they will definitely be back for more. Some of our favorite repeat patrons are those who had never been to a theater show before visiting us.

Lacuna Community

Lacuna was created during the Pandemic of 2020.  We watched as our friends and neighbors struggled with self care during this challenging time and we wanted to do something about it.  We believe that every human being has the potential to grow and heal, and that together, we can heal our communities, too. Lacuna, like the definition, is an empty space; the pause between breaths, the moment before, a space of potential energy.  A space to grow.

In this lacuna we offer wellness programming through our partnership with 2nd Bloom Yoga, personal growth programming featuring experts at the top of their fields, and creative programming which can guide us all towards finding our true voice and expression.  Through grants and generous donations, we have the ability to offer this programming for free and at a reduced price – so that all people, regardless of income or social status, can grow.

Palo Alto College

The Roxie Theatre

JP Studios began creating its interactive live entertainment experiences in San Antonio in 2005. At the center of this immersive saloon  was a diamond of venue – a flash back in time with a French – Western flare beautifully constructed from aged bricks, marble, glass windows, and an elegantly flowing drop curtain.

Around our sideshow saloon from the past, you are invited to our interactive showrooms to connect once again with humanity under the neon cactus bush pre and post show to our local Texas wine & beer garden, cabaret, underground speakeasy, and our Saloon Members Only VIP Fiber Optic Marble Bar.

The Sheldon Vexler Theatre

The Sheldon Vexler Theatre is a state-of-the-art critically-acclaimed black box theatre. The theatre’s namesake was a talented writer, wordsmith, and lover of words. He wrote, directed, and performed in a number of plays, and was active in the community.

The Vex is known to many as an experimental theatre where shows often have a “Vex twist” – something that makes the production truly unique to the theater.

The Overtime Theater

The Overtime has a mission of “theater for the people” through new productions and workshops in acting, playwriting, and comedy improvisation.
